Ontario study proves importance of school libraries

A study, commissioned by the Ontario Library Association, links students' test scores to access to school libraries.

“This study shows a link between school libraries and students’ reading achievement,” sais Kathryn Blackett, researcher for the parents’ group, People for Education. “Now that we know the link is there, we must do more to ensure that all of Ontario’s students have access to this valuable resource.

This first Canadian analysis of the relationship between student achievement and library resources and staff supports numerous American studies which have found similar results.
